Fahad Hamad Hassan Al-Sulaiti, the head of the Qatar Fund for Development, expressed the significance of this initiative, stating it is a “pivotal step towards meeting the Syrian people’s energy needs.” He emphasized the collaborative spirit among involved parties to foster regional development and support for Syria.
Since the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad in December, the interim authorities have struggled with electricity provision due to the damage inflicted on significant infrastructure during over a decade of conflict. Previously, Syria relied on oil supplies from Iran for power generation, but these supplies have diminished sharply following the political upheaval.
