NamRA Secures N$3.4 Million Following Whistleblower Reports

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has gathered N$3.4 million in revenue through its whistleblower hotline, emphasizing its effectiveness against tax evasion. Launched in 2023 and managed by Deloitte Namibia, the hotline received 60 reports concerning severe illegal activities. NamRA raised N$15.8 million in assessments, underscoring the initiative’s role in promoting tax compliance, with assurances of confidentiality for whistleblowers.

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has collected N$3.4 million in revenue through tips received via its whistleblower hotline, demonstrating the initiative’s effectiveness in addressing tax evasion and other illegal activities. The hotline, launched in 2023 and fully operational by May 2024, is independently managed by Deloitte Namibia and has proven to be a crucial asset in fostering transparency and accountability.

Since its inception, the hotline has received 60 reports, addressing serious issues such as fraud, corruption, tax evasion, money laundering, drug smuggling, and unethical behavior. According to Yarukeekuro Steven Ndorokaze, NamRA’s chief strategic communications officer, this initiative has raised N$15.8 million in assessments, leading to the recovery of N$3.4 million from three companies in just November and December of 2024.

Ndorokaze emphasized that this accomplishment highlights the hotline’s role in promoting compliance and ethical governance, reiterating NamRA’s commitment to enhancing tax compliance. He urged all taxpayers and stakeholders to actively engage with the hotline to support integrity within Namibia’s tax system. Furthermore, he reassured that all whistleblowers would be safeguarded, as reports are handled with utmost confidentiality. Whistleblowers can report disorders anonymously through various channels including a toll-free number, email, and website.
