As Essid articulated during the trial, “None of the lawyers have the complete file,” urging an end to what he calls madness. Critics, including National Salvation Front leader Ahmed Nejib Chebbi, rebuked the proceedings as unjust, asserting that dissent against the government remains a legitimate right. Saied has maintained that his administration does not interfere with judicial matters. Amidst escalating tensions, including a harsh sentence against Ennahdha party leader Rached Ghannouchi, the United Nations has called for an end to what it describes as a pattern of arbitrary arrests and detentions. Tunisia’s foreign ministry, however, dismissed the UN’s concerns as ungrounded.
