President Kais Saied, who came to power amid the Arab Spring, has notably implemented measures that have raised concerns regarding civil liberties since a significant power consolidation in 2021.
The UN human rights office recently condemned Tunisia for the persecution of political opponents, highlighting instances of arbitrary arrests, questionable trials, and vague accusations against activists and journalists.
