Frank Tayali, the Transport and Logistics Minister, has urged the swift finalization of the 16th protocol to enhance technical cooperation aimed at revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA). During a recent meeting with the Economic Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Jin Jun, Mr. Tayali acknowledged the advancements made by both the Tanzanian and Zambian governments in this initiative.
Mr. Tayali underscored the significance of signing the 16th protocol between Zambia and the People’s Republic of China, noting that TAZARA currently operates under the 15th protocol. The Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Fredrick Mwalusaka, reinforced this point, emphasizing the urgency for the government to advance to the 16th protocol.
Additionally, Counsellor Jin Jun expressed the Chinese government’s readiness to engage in discussions regarding the 16th technical cooperation framework. He conveyed the openness to renegotiation of agreements and showed appreciation for the feedback received from Tanzania last year.
The call for the finalization of the 16th protocol by Minister Tayali signifies a crucial step towards the revitalization of TAZARA.
