Esteban Lazo Hernández, the president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State of Cuba, visited the United Republic of Tanzania and met with Hussein Ali Mwinyi, the president of Zanzibar. This meeting took place during the second day of his visit at the Zanzibar State House. Lazo Hernández emphasized the necessity of enhancing the historical bilateral relationship rooted in the friendship between Fidel Castro and Julius Nyerere. He expressed Cuba’s commitment to expanding cooperation and thanked Tanzania for its assistance in advocating for the end of the U.S. blockade and the removal of Cuba from the list of “State Sponsors of Terrorism.”
President Mwinyi conveyed greetings to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighting Cuba’s solidarity with Africa, particularly in healthcare, and reaffirmed Tanzania’s support for Cuba. Additionally, Lazo Hernández engaged in official discussions with Zubeir Ali Maulid, the head of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, to foster inter-parliamentary cooperation, establish friendship groups, and enhance bilateral trade.
As part of his visit, Lazo Hernández also met with Cuban aid workers in Zanzibar and toured the Biolarvicide Plant located in Kibaha. This facility represents a collaborative effort supported by Cuban specialists aimed at combating malaria effectively.
