During S. Jaishankar’s UK visit, a pro-Khalistani individual breached his security and tore an Indian flag. The incident occurred post-discussion at Chatham House amid protests. Jaishankar discussed India’s Kashmir strategy, arguing against third-party mediation and reaffirming India’s stance on the region’s illegal occupation by Pakistan.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is currently conducting an official visit to the United Kingdom from March 4 to March 9. During this visit, an incident occurred where a pro-Khalistani extremist breached the minister’s security in London, rushing towards his vehicle and tearing the Indian flag in the presence of law enforcement officials.
As the External Affairs Minister departed from a discussion at Chatham House, a group of pro-Khalistani extremists attempted to create a disruption. The protester capitalized upon an initial delay from the police to tear the national flag while supporters chanted slogans nearby. Eventually, law enforcement intervened and detained the individual and others involved.
A separate video, disseminated by the news agency ANI, depicted the gathering of pro-Khalistani protesters outside the Chatham House, brandishing flags and vocally supporting their cause. The gathering disrupted Jaishankar’s visit, which had also included vital discussions with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on a variety of issues.
Minister Jaishankar firmly defended India’s position on Kashmir during a scheduled discourse at Chatham House. He argued against the need for third-party intervention and outlined India’s initiatives to manage the situation in the region, which included the abrogation of Article 370 and fostering economic development along with conducting elections with high voter turnout.
In his statements, he underscored that the unresolved matter pertains to the territory that is under Pakistani control. “I think the part we are waiting for is the return of the stolen part of Kashmir, which is under an illegal Pakistani occupation. When that’s done, I assure you, Kashmir solved,” said Jaishankar.
The recent security breach involving External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to the UK underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the pro-Khalistani movement. Despite the disruption, the minister’s commitment to defend India’s position on Kashmir remains unwavering, emphasizing that resolutions to territorial disputes should be recognized.
