North Korea Deploys Additional Troops to Russia in Preparation for Ukraine

North Korea has sent an additional 3,500 troops to Russia, continuing a pattern of military support ahead of an anticipated deployment to Ukraine. This follows earlier deployments with a significant number of casualties reported.

Recent reports indicate that North Korea has dispatched an additional 3,500 troops to Russia in anticipation of their deployment to Ukraine. This action follows the previous sending of a second group comprising 1,500 troops earlier in the year, intended to replace personnel lost among the original 11,000 deployed in October to Kursk, as reported by South Korean lawmaker Yu.
Yu disclosed that approximately 3,500 North Korean soldiers are currently undergoing field adaptation training across five locations in Russia’s Far East, and a third deployment may soon occur. This information was derived from a briefing by Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence, which Yu attended during a visit to Ukraine from February 23 to 26.
It is noted that around 400 North Korean troops have been killed in combat to date, while another 3,600 have sustained injuries. Among those wounded, approximately 300 have successfully returned to the front lines after recovering from their injuries.

In summary, North Korea has sent an additional 3,500 troops to Russia, following earlier troop deployments. These soldiers are receiving training before potential deployment to Ukraine. Notably, losses among North Korean troops have been significant, with casualties and a noteworthy number of injuries reported, yet some soldiers have returned to combat.
