On February 28, 2025, the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) in Abu Dhabi hosted a high-level delegation from the European Parliament. This meeting served to showcase the UAE’s advancements in human rights initiatives and to highlight the NHRI’s commitment to fostering a culture centered on these principles.
The delegation, which consisted of notable members including Reinhold Lopatka, praised the NHRI for its strategic actions aimed at enhancing human rights. They noted the institution’s active involvement with regional and global human rights organizations, particularly emphasizing its relationship with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).
Maqsoud Kruse, the Chairperson of the NHRI, and Dr. Saeed Al Ghufli, the Secretary-General, warmly welcomed the delegation. Kruse remarked on the significance of the visit, stating that it mirrors the increasing recognition from international entities regarding the NHRI’s essential role in the promotion and protection of human rights in the UAE.
Kruse further expressed the NHRI’s continuous commitment to advancing policies that position the UAE as a leading model for human rights standards globally. The European delegation also included significant figures such as Lucía Berger, the EU Ambassador to the UAE, among other representatives involved in Middle Eastern affairs.
