Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), voiced significant concern regarding increasing tensions and armed confrontations in Nasir County, South Sudan. These occurrences jeopardize the important progress achieved through the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and threaten the nation’s peace.
Dr. Workneh urged all involved parties to exercise utmost restraint and reaffirm their commitment to the R-ARCSS. He emphasized that prioritizing dialogue and reconciliation is essential for ensuring lasting peace. The Executive Secretary called for the Government of South Sudan, local authorities, and relevant stakeholders to enhance efforts toward de-escalation and reconciliation, safeguarding civilian protection and regional stability.
