Pavlov highlighted that Ethiopia is one of Russia’s key partners in Africa, particularly within the BRICS framework. Previously, South Africa was the sole representative of Africa in BRICS; however, Ethiopia has now joined, making significant contributions. The expert identified Ethiopia as a driving force for investment in infrastructure and industry throughout the continent.
Ethiopia’s economic growth further underscores its significance, with an 8.1 percent GDP increase recorded in 2024, making it one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies. Pavlov emphasized that Africa’s demographic expansion is a vital global factor. He urged that understanding African languages and cultures is crucial for establishing equitable partnerships and improving international relations.
The lecture also covered the enhancement of educational ties between Russia and Ethiopia. The Russian House in Addis Ababa provides training for students aiming to enroll in Russian universities and offers programs enabling young specialists to gain insights from their Russian counterparts. The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre, launched in October 2024, aims to foster humanitarian cooperation across nations and promote cultural, scientific, and educational exchange.
