The State of Qatar has welcomed the new Syrian administration’s initiatives aimed at ensuring civilian safety and restoring stability, while also emphasizing humanitarian efforts and condemning foreign aggression, specifically that of Israel. Qatar continues to support the Syrian people through aid and advocacy for lifted sanctions.
On February 14, 2025, the State of Qatar expressed its support for the new administration in Syria, acknowledging its efforts to prioritize civilian safety and maintain institutional stability. Qatar highlighted initiatives aimed at ensuring public service continuity and fulfilling the basic needs of the Syrian populace.
The State of Qatar commended the administration’s commitment to restructuring the Syrian state and fostering unity among various Syrian factions, essential for achieving civil peace, security, and the rule of law. This statement was presented by HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani during a UN Security Council briefing.
Her Excellency emphasized Qatar’s enduring support for the Syrian people, citing a consistent stance over thirteen years advocating for their dignity, freedom, and social justice. This commitment was evidenced by the recent official visit of HH Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Syria, marking a historic moment of restored relations.
During this visit, HH the Amir congratulated President Ahmed Al-Sharaa on his transition to leadership and assured Qatar’s continuous support for Syria’s integrity. Furthermore, Her Excellency articulated Qatar’s view that the nation must now establish a unified national army to uphold sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Qatar’s humanitarian role was also highlighted, with statements regarding an ongoing air bridge delivering aid, totaling 378 tons through 13 flights to support the Syrian population. Moreover, the inauguration of “Al Amal City” for displaced persons, realized in partnership with Turkiye, was showcased as a significant effort in providing essential living facilities.
The current humanitarian conditions in Syria necessitate a collective global response. Hence, Qatar advocates for lifted sanctions affecting the populace, asserting that their initial justification is no longer relevant.
Her Excellency condemned Israel’s occupation and its implications on Syria’s sovereignty, categorizing it as a severe escalation that breaches international law. She urged the international community to ensure compliance with Security Council resolutions and protect Syrian territory from further encroachments.
In summary, Qatar has endorsed the positive developments initiated by the new Syrian administration, recognizing efforts towards civilian safety and institutional stability. The nation remains committed to humanitarian assistance for Syria and advocates for the normalization of relations. The condemnation of external aggressions, particularly from Israel, reflects Qatar’s stance on regional stability and the necessity of international responsibility.
