Sudan has condemned the UAE’s initiative to hold a conference discussing Sudan at the African Union summit, regarding it as an infringement of sovereignty. Sudan filed a complaint with the UN Security Council, accusing the UAE of illicit military support to the RSF. The Sudanese leadership emphasizes the need for internal dialogue and rejects external interference.
On February 10, 2025, Sudan’s government publicly criticized the United Arab Emirates for its initiative to hold a conference regarding Sudan during the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Sudanese officials denounced the UAE’s actions as “an all-out aggression” and filed a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council, accusing the UAE of supplying military resources to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) via Chad.
Malik Agar, the Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, stated that the UAE’s proposed conference on February 14 contradicts the principles upheld by the African Union regarding sovereignty. He characterized the UAE’s agenda as an infringement upon Sudan’s right to govern its internal affairs and condemned it as a significant affront to the nation’s sovereignty.
Agar further remarked that the UAE’s insistence on the participation of key figures, including the UN Secretary-General and the Ethiopian Prime Minister, reflects a desire to manipulate regional political dynamics in a manner that undermines Sudan’s interests. He emphasized that the timing and nature of the planned conference were politically motivated, aiming to divert attention from the challenges facing Sudan.
In response to the situation, Agar called on Ethiopia to consider mutual interests and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s rejection of the UAE’s scheme. He noted that the UAE’s efforts appeared aimed at distorting realities in Sudan while perpetuating its involvement in regional unrest through the support of the RSF.
Agar asserted that Sudan would not tolerate any external interference in matters affecting its populace or political trajectory. He urged global peace-loving nations to unite against such interventions that solely benefit the parties involved in regional aggression.
Highlighting the ongoing military efforts aimed at restoring stability against the RSF, he indicated that recent successes indicate the necessity of a military approach as a precursor to a broader political dialogue that respects citizen rights and restores order. Agar also called for the African Union to reassess its stance and decisions on Sudan’s circumstances, advocating for a roadmap toward national dialogue and governance post-conflict, respecting the nation’s fundamental principles.
Sudan’s government firmly opposes the UAE’s planned conference during the African Union summit, deeming it an infringement of its sovereignty. The Sudanese leadership emphasizes the importance of addressing Sudan’s internal issues with its participation and insists on the necessity of fair dialogue. Furthermore, the government is committed to restoring security while advocating for a thoughtful reassessment of the African Union’s positions on Sudan.
