On Monday, in Hà Nội, the Ministry of National Defence hosted a formal ceremony to present the State President’s decisions to three Vietnamese officers who will be deployed to serve in United Nations peacekeeping missions. These officers, which include Lieutenant Colonel Vũ Thị Kim Oanh and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Thu, will take on roles in the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), while Captain Chu Tuấn Linh has been assigned to act as a military observer at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Lieutenant Colonel Oanh and Lieutenant Colonel Thu will function as a quartermaster and a senior training officer at UNISFA, respectively, stepping in for their predecessors. Captain Linh will replace another officer in the capacity of military observer at UNMISS. The appointments were made after thorough procedural training, ensuring each officer meets both UN standards and requirements set by the Ministry of National Defence. Major General Phạm Mạnh Thắng, the Director of the Việt Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, affirmed that these officers are well-prepared for their assignments, with Oanh notably having prior experience as a military observer at UNMISS, and Thu previously serving as a staff officer for logistics at UNISFA. Offering his congratulations, Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Hoàng Xuân Chiến emphasized the significance of their military experience for their upcoming roles. On behalf of the newly appointed officers, Lieutenant Colonel Oanh expressed their commitment to uphold team solidarity, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and diligently execute their duties as assigned by the United Nations and the Ministry of Defence.
