In response to the ongoing crisis, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has reactivated emergency interventions to support local healthcare and provide essential supplies. MSF has already facilitated access to primary healthcare services in Lubero-Cité and Kipese, covering the costs for children’s hospitalizations and launching programs to treat malnutrition. Additionally, efforts are underway to bolster immunizations to prevent outbreaks of diseases like measles.
The health facilities face significant pressures due to the influx of displaced individuals. Water supply systems are strained, and there is a lack of sufficient toilets to accommodate the population increase. Many patients resort to self-medication or traditional remedies, leading to additional health complications. MSF’s initiatives also include improving access to water in both healthcare facilities and designated sites for displaced persons.
Addressing the rising instances of sexual violence among displaced populations is also a priority for MSF. With the complex dynamics of armed conflicts and health emergencies intertwined, the repercussions for civilians remain dire.
