This marks Anaergia’s third collaboration with PepsiCo on a global scale. Anaergia Inc. has entered into a contract to provide its biogas digestion and upgrading technology for a renewable natural gas (RNG) initiative spearheaded by PepsiCo Alimentos ZF LTDA in Colombia. This project will utilize approximately 50,000 tons annually of organic waste generated at PepsiCo’s food production facility in Funza, situated in the Metropolitan Area of Bogotá. The conversion process aims to produce RNG for use within the facility, ultimately displacing fossil natural gas and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 3,700 tons per year.
The expansion of Anaergia’s operations in South America marks yet another significant milestone, with CEO Assaf Onn noting, “South America is now the third continent where Anaergia is providing systems to PepsiCo facilities.” Previously, Anaergia secured a contract from Rialto Bioenergy Solutions LLC in California to oversee the operations of a remarkable organic waste-to-RNG facility that can process up to 1,000 tons of organic waste daily. This facility is anticipated to produce around 985,000 million British thermal units of RNG annually.
This Californian facility not only produces RNG but also contributes to the reduction of methane emissions, complying with California’s landfill diversion legislation, Senate Bill 1383. Steve Compton, the president of Sevana Bioenergy, emphasized the importance of this facility by stating, “The RBS is a critical asset serving the organic waste diversion needs of Los Angeles’ RecycLA franchise and the broader Southern California region.” Meanwhile, Anaergia Services LLC will manage this facility for the next decade, ensuring operational efficiency and adaptability.
Additionally, Anaergia has been entrusted with upgrading an anaerobic digester at Michigan State University’s South Campus Anaerobic Digester and Compost Facility, which converts food waste and manure into electricity for campus buildings. CEO Assaf Onn expressed satisfaction with this endeavor, remarking on the company’s commitment to advancing clean energy through effective waste management solutions.
