On Monday, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya emphasized that his visit to Damascus serves as a “message of Gulf solidarity” with Syria, advocating for the removal of international sanctions against the nation. This visit follows a directive from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), currently chaired by Kuwait, which addressed developments in Syria at a ministerial meeting held in Kuwait City on December 26. Al-Yahya underscored that Syria’s stability is crucial to the overall security of the region and appealed to the global community to reconsider the sanctions imposed on the country. The delegation, which includes Al-Yahya and Al-Budaiwi, met with Ahmad Al-Sharaa, the new leader of Syrian administration. Al-Assad, who had dominated Syrian politics for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia when anti-regime factions seized control over Damascus on December 8, effectively ending the Baath Party’s rule that started in 1963.
