A new initiative named “Iraqis” in Al-Anbar province aims to enhance democratic governance, promote public freedoms, and foster a citizenship model. Officially unveiled on Saturday, it is driven by local intellectuals and aims to reform governance while nurturing local talent for national development.
A fresh civic initiative has surfaced in Al-Anbar province, Iraq, focusing on the promotion of democratic principles, safeguarding public freedoms, and nurturing an inclusive citizenship model. Dubbed “Iraqis” (Iraqiyoon), this endeavor is being spearheaded by academics, cultural figures, and political analysts and is set to be unveiled on Saturday, as indicated by founding member Hikmat Suleiman.
In a conversation with Shafaq News, Suleiman elaborated on the initiative’s objectives, asserting that it will serve as a platform operated by intellectuals and civil society leaders involved in various political, social, and media issues. “The initiative seeks to recalibrate the course of political and institutional governance in parallel with the work of political blocs,” he noted.
Moreover, the movement intends to initiate a variety of supportive activities, which will include the creation of media outlets, public events, and policy discussions. All these efforts aim to bolster civic participation and ensure accountability within governance. Suleiman further stated their ambition to foster a capable local elite in Al-Anbar—one that will drive progress across numerous sectors, ultimately contributing to national stability and institutional growth.
The “Iraqis” initiative in Al-Anbar signifies a renewed commitment to addressing governance issues in Iraq through civic engagement.
