Strengthening Diplomatic Relations: PBBM Engages Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic about strengthening ties with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine through new ambassadors. He highlighted potential collaboration and commitment to peace and development during their credential presentations at Malacañan Palace.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has conveyed his optimism regarding the strengthening of relations between the Philippines and the new ambassadors from Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine. During separate credential presentations at Malacañan Palace, Marcos expressed confidence that these diplomats will enhance ties with their respective nations.

While addressing Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito from Colombia, Marcos emphasized the potential for exploring new sectors to deepen bilateral relations. Rojas Garavito remarked on the shared goals of lasting peace and development between the two countries, which have maintained formal diplomatic relations since July 5, 1946, with around 100 Filipinos residing in Colombia.

Marcos also expressed a desire to further solidify connections with Cambodia, acknowledging the existing strong foundation between the nations. He welcomed Ambassador Sin Saream, who assured his commitment to fostering cooperation for mutual benefit. The Philippines and Cambodia have established diplomatic relations since August 20, 1957, with roughly 7,500 Filipinos currently living in Cambodia.

Additionally, Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine expressed her eagerness to promote bilateral relations through initiatives that encourage peace and prosperity. Marcos reaffirmed the Philippines’ strong support for Ukraine’s quest for peace, stating the country’s willingness to assist despite geographical distance. Diplomatic relations with Ukraine were formalized on April 7, 1992, and approximately 24 Filipinos are currently in the country.
