The Indian embassy and consulates in the US are prepared to assist students encountering difficulties, despite the two individuals in question not reaching out for help. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal indicated that compliance with local regulations is imperative for all foreign nationals. He stated, “On our side, we expect that when we have foreign nationals coming to India, they abide by our laws and regulations. Similarly, it is our expectation that when Indian nationals are abroad, they must also comply with local laws and regulations.”
Jaiswal clarified that the Indian authorities were unaware of Srinivasan’s need for assistance until informed by media reports regarding her departure. It was noted that Srinivasan expressed a desire for Indian governmental support despite denying involvement in any controversial activities.
