ZIMSEC Extends November Exam Registration Deadline to May 16

ZIMSEC has extended the registration deadline for November exams to May 16 following concerns from lawmakers about the March 28 deadline’s impact on financially disadvantaged students. Minister Torerayi Moyo confirmed the extension, offering relief to affected families.

The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has announced a two-month extension for the registration deadline of November’s Grade 7, Ordinary Level, and Advanced Level examinations, setting the new deadline to May 16. This decision was confirmed by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo in the Senate on Thursday, following complaints from lawmakers regarding the initial March 28 deadline.

Lawmakers expressed concerns that the early registration date would negatively impact numerous disadvantaged students, thwarting their chances to sit for the examinations. Minister Moyo remarked, “The public examination fees were scheduled to be paid on or before March 28 but we received a request from parliamentarians… that the date be extended.”

In response to the legislators’ concerns and after consultations with relevant stakeholders, the ministry agreed to postpone the deadline. This extension offers considerable relief to students and families who may have struggled financially to meet the previous deadline, allowing them additional time to prepare and secure the necessary funds.

The extension of the registration deadline for ZIMSEC exams reflects a responsive approach to the concerns raised by lawmakers about financial accessibility for students. The new date of May 16 provides critical support, enabling more students to participate in their respective examinations effectively.
