Argentina Supports Conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Treaty Negotiations

Argentina welcomes the end of peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, praising efforts for a peaceful resolution. Despite positive developments, tensions rise due to Azerbaijan’s unsubstantiated accusations against Armenia and new demands. Armenia remains open to signing the agreement.

Argentina has expressed its support for the conclusion of peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In an official statement posted on X, Argentina’s Foreign Ministry emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “Argentina welcomes the completion of the negotiations around the draft peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.” The ministry praised both nations for their commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry also articulated a positive outlook, asserting that the peace process would foster development and welfare in both countries, leading to stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus region. On March 13, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced the successful conclusion of discussions regarding the peace treaty.

However, following the negotiations, Azerbaijan initiated a disinformation campaign, making unsubstantiated allegations of Armenian attacks on its military positions along the border. The Armenian military has firmly denied these claims, and the European Union monitoring mission in Armenia corroborated that there is no evidence of such incidents. Furthermore, Azerbaijan has placed further demands on Armenia, including constitutional amendments and the disbandment of the OSCE Minsk Group, claiming that the current constitution contains territorial claims.

On March 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reiterated Armenia’s willingness to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, indicating a strong desire for a resolution to the ongoing tensions between the two countries.

In summary, Argentina has welcomed the successful conclusion of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations, commending both countries for their efforts. Despite these advancements, tensions remain as Azerbaijan has launched disinformation campaigns and imposed additional demands on Armenia. Nonetheless, Armenian leadership signals a commitment to finalizing the peace agreement, aiming for stability in the region.
