Pakistan’s Ranking Declines to 109th in World Happiness Report 2025

Pakistan’s ranking in the World Happiness Report falls to 109th, although it remains ahead of India and Afghanistan. The report measures happiness through surveys and identifies key factors affecting well-being. Finland remains the happiest country, while the US and UK experience declines in their happiness rankings.

Pakistan has experienced a minor decline in its ranking within the World Happiness Report for 2025, dropping to 109th from the previous year’s 108th. However, Pakistan remains ahead of its regional counterparts, India and Afghanistan, which hold the 118th and 147th positions, respectively.

The World Happiness Report, published by Gallup in collaboration with its partners, evaluates the happiness levels of 147 countries based on population surveys assessing quality of life from 2022 to 2024. Within South Asia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka follow Pakistan, ranking 133rd and 134th, while Iran, which has a refugee population of 3.9%, ranks higher at 99th. Impressively, China is the leading country in Asia, securing 27th place.

Globally, Finland retains its title as the happiest nation, with Denmark and Iceland following closely. Other notable mentions in the top 15 include Sweden, the Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Norway. In contrast, the United States and the United Kingdom have both seen significant drops in their happiness rankings, with the US descending to 24th place—the lowest in its history—and the UK to 23rd, marking its poorest showing since 2017. At the lower end of the spectrum, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe are recognized as among the least happy countries.

In summary, Pakistan’s position in the World Happiness Report slightly declined to 109th, yet it maintains a higher rank than India and Afghanistan. The report emphasizes crucial factors such as social support and personal freedoms that impact happiness. Meanwhile, Finland continues to be the leading country in terms of happiness, with various countries, including the US and UK, experiencing declines in their rankings. The findings indicate that caring and sharing play vital roles in enhancing overall well-being.
