Lt. Gen. David Majur Dak: Honored with State Funeral in Juba

The late Commander of the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF), Lt. Gen. David Majur Dak, was honored in a state funeral at Heroes Cemetery in Juba on Wednesday, following a 21-gun salute. Tragically, he was killed on March 7, alongside 27 bodyguards during an evacuation attempt by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Nasir County.

Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, the Vice President responsible for the Economic Cluster, led the ceremony, emphasizing the need for dialogue and unity within South Sudan following this painful event. He urged the youth to remain calm and avoid seeking revenge, as it is unproductive.

Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk expressed appreciation to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the state funeral arrangements, honoring Lt. Gen. Dak’s sacrifice alongside his men in Nasir.

Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Paul Nang Majok, praised Lt. Gen. Dak as a hero and a true embodiment of SPLA values, highlighting the pride within the SSPDF for his contributions. He assured that the SSPDF would recover the bodies of the troops killed alongside Lt. Gen. Dak.
