The Chairperson of the AUC, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, praised the outcomes of the trilateral meeting in Doha between Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and the DRC’s President Félix Tshisekedi. He highlighted their joint commitment to a ceasefire and peaceful dialogue to resolve the Eastern DRC crisis, reiterating the AUC’s support for African-led initiatives toward sustainable peace. Youssouf also commended Qatar’s role in facilitating this engagement.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, expressed support for the trilateral meeting in Doha on March 18, 2025, involving the leaders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This meeting was hosted by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and featured Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and the DRC’s President Félix Tshisekedi.

Chairperson Youssouf commended the leaders for their dedication to dialogue and their commitment to resolving the crisis in Eastern DRC through peaceful means, recognizing that stability is vital for the prosperity of both nations and the greater Great Lakes region. He highlighted the importance of their reaffirmed commitment to an immediate ceasefire, consistent with agreements made during the EAC and SADC summit in Dar es Salaam on February 8, 2025.

The AUC remains dedicated to supporting African-led solutions to continental challenges, as seen in the Luanda and Nairobi processes. The discussions in Doha aimed to reinforce these efforts and emphasize the need for collaboration among the African Union, regional economic bodies, and international allies to ensure sustainable peace.

Chairperson Youssouf acknowledged the significant role of Qatar and His Highness the Amir in facilitating dialogue and building trust among involved parties. He urged all stakeholders to leverage the momentum established in Doha, striving for the complete execution of mutual commitments, with the AUC prepared to assist in promoting peace, security, and stability throughout Africa.

In conclusion, the AUC Chairperson’s endorsement of the Doha meeting underscores the importance of dialogue between DRC and Rwanda leaders. Their commitment to peace and stability is vital for the region’s future. The emphasis on cooperation among stakeholders and the AUC’s readiness to facilitate this process highlights the significance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable peace in the Great Lakes region.
