During an event leading to the signing of an addendum for the modernization of Guillermo Diaz de la Vega Hospital, President Boluarte lamented how some officials exploit social justice, asserting her government’s genuine commitment to addressing health care needs. She reiterated her resolve to advance health infrastructure projects that had previously been stalled due to corruption, emphasizing that health is a fundamental right for all Peruvians.
The signing of the addendum signifies a pivotal advancement in healthcare for the region. Mrs. Boluarte highlighted the significance of collaboration between the Executive Branch and regional governments, stating that unity and social peace are essential for the successful delivery of these critical projects.
Furthermore, she underscored the importance of completing hospital projects to prevent financial losses and, importantly, to honor the hopes of thousands of citizens. An investment exceeding US$27 million is allocated for the modernization of the hospital, which will transition from a Level II-2 to a Level III-1 facility, enhancing its operational capacity and patient services.
The upgraded hospital will feature 105 consultation rooms, 12 operating theaters, and 293 beds, including intensive care units for adults and newborns. President Boluarte specified that this initiative benefits not only Apurimac but also the surrounding Cusco region, which is experiencing overcrowding issues with its existing healthcare facilities due to previous operational delays linked to corruption.
Furthermore, she disclosed how several former governors in Cusco are currently imprisoned for misappropriating funds intended for public health. She reported good progress on the Antonio Lorena Hospital project, stressing that it is being constructed without corruption.
Lastly, President Boluarte addressed public sentiment on the death penalty, revealing that the majority of citizens surveyed expressed support for its application in severe criminal cases. She reiterated her administration’s serious consideration of implementing the death penalty for heinous offenses.
The signing of the addendum was conducted between the National Health Investment Program and the UK Government. Attendees included UK Ambassador to Peru Gavin Cook, Apurimac Region Governor Percy Godoy, and Health Minister Cesar Vasquez.
