Kazakhstan has officially taken on the Presidency of the Conference on Disarmament, as reported by DKnews.kz. In the inaugural plenary session, attended by the Director General of the UN Office in Geneva and Secretary General of the Conference on Disarmament, Tatiana Valovaya, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Alimbayev, expressed his resolve to lead the Conference’s efforts in a transparent and inclusive manner, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s commitment to multilateralism and cooperation in global security matters.

The focus of this year’s Conference will center around the Subsidiary Bodies, which will encourage substantive discussions on crucial global security issues. Topics of discussion will include nuclear disarmament, preventing nuclear conflicts, negative security assurances, curbing the arms race in outer space, and addressing challenges of artificial intelligence in military applications and biological security. The proposed initiative by Kazakhstan’s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, for establishing an International Agency for Biological Safety and Security will also significantly shape the discussions.
