General Electric (GE) has successfully completed 30 substations aimed at bolstering Iraq’s electricity transmission network. The announcement on Wednesday highlighted GE’s strategic objective to transition power generation units from simple cycle to combined cycle systems, enhancing efficiency.
Rashid Al-Janabi, GE’s director in Iraq, noted the company’s substantial contributions to the energy sector, having added 19 gigawatts to the Iraqi electricity grid over the past decade. Additionally, he emphasized strong collaboration with the Iraqi government, particularly the Ministry of Electricity, which has facilitated the progress of strategic projects to stabilize electricity supply.
Under a long-term maintenance agreement established with the Ministry of Electricity, GE is committed to regular maintenance of a 7-gigawatt electricity generation system, ensuring peak readiness for the upcoming summer. Al-Janabi explained that GE is also working to upgrade its power generation units with advanced GE Vernova technologies to improve production efficiency and lower carbon emissions by 30 percent.
Al-Janabi reported the completion of six 132 kV transmission stations last year, delivered significantly ahead of schedule. This achievement underscores the advancements made in electricity transmission projects across Iraq. He affirmed that GE’s ongoing efforts focus on modernizing infrastructure to provide stable and sustainable electricity to citizens.
