In a recent announcement, the Ministries of Health and Finance revealed the allocation of over EGP 1 billion in supplemental funding. This financing allows the Ministry of Health to commence immediate treatment for 60,000 low-income patients lacking health insurance, with costs borne entirely by the state. The government pledges to secure additional resources as necessary, marking an initial budget enhancement totaling EGP 3 billion.
The funding initiative encompasses a wide array of essential medical procedures, such as cancer surgeries, cardiac and neurological operations, orthopedic treatments, and organ transplants, among others. The statement indicates that the cooperation between the state budget and healthcare providers facilitates the annual treatment of approximately 2.355 million cases across various specialties nationwide.
The additional EGP 3 billion will expedite the treatment process, aiming to effectively reduce waiting lists within the stipulated time frame. Special attention will be directed toward maximizing the number of treated cases during Ramadan and the month of April, coinciding with the festivities of Eid al-Fitr.
