Cheng Yan, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, met with Webster Shamu, Chairperson of the Zimbabwean Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss legislative exchanges and cooperation. The meeting highlighted the upcoming 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations and emphasized China’s commitment to whole-process democracy. Shamu expressed Zimbabwe’s readiness to foster ongoing cooperation with China.
On March 12, Cheng Yan, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, engaged in a productive meeting with Webster Shamu, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Zimbabwe’s Parliament. The discussion focused on enhancing exchanges and cooperative efforts between the legislative bodies of both nations, with Counsellor Zhang Yi also in attendance.
During the meeting, Cheng Yan updated Shamu on the recent sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He elaborated on the concept of whole-process people’s democracy in China and emphasized that 2025 will commemorate 45 years of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, aiming for further legislative cooperation to realize the agreements established by the leaders of both countries, particularly following the Beijing summit of FOCAC.
Webster Shamu acknowledged the solid trust and friendship that exists between Zimbabwe and China. He confirmed the commitment of the Parliament of Zimbabwe to maintain close relations with the NPC and actively promote collaborative efforts across various sectors between the two nations.
The meeting between Cheng Yan and Webster Shamu represents a significant step towards strengthening the legislative relationship between China and Zimbabwe.
