Peruvian President Dina Boluarte has called on business leaders to invest in security initiatives within the “Works for Taxes – Alliance for Security” framework, with a budget of S/1.6 billion (US$439 million). On Tuesday, President Dina Boluarte of Peru urged business leaders to unite in combating crime and delinquency by investing in 47 projects outlined in the “Works for Taxes – Alliance for Security” portfolio, amounting to S/1.6 billion (US$439 million). She emphasized the need for collective efforts by stating, “We are aware of your commitment to the country, and call on you to be a single fist against delinquency and crime by investing in any of the 47 projects—ideally, in all of them.”
The proposed projects include the construction of a new prison in the Cusco region, enhancements to Challapalca Prison in Tacna, modernization efforts for Lurigancho Prison in Lima, the addition of a maximum-security block at Ancon I Prison in Lima, and upgrades to the security systems in key penal institutions. President Boluarte highlighted the necessity of constructing police stations in critical areas and enhancing technological capabilities for criminal investigations.
Furthermore, initiatives to implement video surveillance, deploy citizen security systems, acquire patrol vehicles, establish Serenazgo operational bases, and train personnel for citizen safety were discussed. The President noted, “Everything contributes to building a safer Peru; besides, the public and private sectors can and must come together to achieve it (this goal).”
The president reiterated that these projects will be executed through the Works for Taxes scheme to ensure transparency in the fight against crime. She referenced the government’s recent successes in capturing criminal gangs, emphasizing the need for ongoing efforts to strengthen security, stating, “There is still much left to strengthen, which is why we are launching the Alliance for Security.”
Mrs. Boluarte expressed confidence that the results of her administration would surpass those of past governments, and assured the public that understandable expressions of discontent should be pursued peacefully. She remarked, “Let us continue advancing on the path of generating confidence in the world,” emphasizing the importance of attracting both national and foreign investments. Lastly, she reaffirmed her call for a serious political debate regarding the potential death penalty for hitmen and criminals. The presentation of the initiative took place at the Government Palace in Lima, attended by State ministers and business leaders.
