During talks in Saudi Arabia, Andrii Yermak outlined Ukraine’s red lines, emphasizing its refusal to accept neutral status and a reduction in military forces. Kyiv also proposed a 30-day ceasefire and solutions for the exchange of prisoners, demonstrating a commitment to peace alongside necessary monitoring mechanisms.

Andrii Yermak, the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office and chief negotiator for Ukraine, articulated the nation’s non-negotiable positions during peace discussions with the United States in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that Ukraine firmly rejects any proposals regarding neutral status or a reduction in the size of its Armed Forces, and will not acknowledge any territories temporarily occupied by Russia.

Additionally, Yermak revealed that Kyiv proposed a 30-day ceasefire and initiatives for the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of civilians, and the return of deported children during the dialogue in Jeddah. He noted the importance of establishing clear mechanisms and necessary expertise for effective monitoring of the ceasefire.

Following the discussions that took place in Jeddah on March 11, Ukraine declared its readiness to observe a 30-day ceasefire, contingent upon Russia’s compliance with the agreement.

The discussions in Saudi Arabia highlighted Ukraine’s unwavering stance on key issues, including its refusal to accept neutral status or any reduction in military strength. Moreover, proposals for humanitarian measures such as prisoner exchanges and the return of civilians were placed on the table, displaying Ukraine’s commitment to peace while underscoring the need for a reciprocal ceasefire structure.
