His attorney, Beatriz Santana, filed a motion asserting that Riibe cannot lawfully be detained without formal charges, emphasizing the need for him to be allowed to return home.
While Riibe has not been charged with any crime, his travel has been restricted, with authorities seizing his passport and placing him under police monitoring. He has undergone interrogation by Dominican Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso and Navy Vice Admiral Agustin Morillo Rodriguez regarding the case.
The investigation into Sudiksha Konanki’s disappearance is now on its 11th day, involving more than 300 law enforcement personnel, including agents from the FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security. Santana informed ABC Eyewitness News that Riibe is unable to leave his hotel room freely due to police oversight and passport seizure.
A hearing on the habeas corpus motion filed by Santana is scheduled for 2 PM on March 18, according to Spanish-language outlet Noticias SIN. Riibe, an Iowa native and a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, has reportedly been under police interrogation since shortly after Konanki’s disappearance on March 6. Authorities have stated that until Riibe is no longer considered a pivotal figure in the investigation, he will remain in custody.
