Kondwani Nankhumwa, President of the PDP, announced the Northern Region is becoming a party stronghold due to grassroots support. During his tour, he emphasized the urgency for change and criticized the MCP government. Nankhumwa stated the PDP is ready to address poverty and enhance development as the September elections approach, asserting an aggressive campaign strategy.
Kondwani Nankhumwa, the President of the People’s Development Party (PDP), has announced that the Northern Region is swiftly transforming into a stronghold for his party, driven by exceptional grassroots support. During his recent tour concluding in Chintheche, Nkhata Bay on March 16, 2025, Nankhumwa emphasized the undeniable momentum the PDP is experiencing in the north.
“What I have seen this weekend is nothing short of a revolution. The people of the north are ready to take back their future. From Mzuzu to Chintheche, the hunger for real change is powerful and deeply inspiring,” Nankhumwa remarked. He noted the rapid establishment of grassroots structures as thousands of supporters defect from other parties ahead of the general elections scheduled for September 16.
Nankhumwa asserted, “This is not politics as usual. Malawians are tired of empty promises and failed leadership. They are embracing the PDP as the people’s alternative.” During his tour of Mzuzu City, he addressed large crowds at various venues, where local party committees committed to intensifying their mobilization efforts. He was joined by PDP Vice President Dr. Rose Sakala and members of the National Governing Council (NGC).
Further, he adopted a confrontational stance, blaming the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government for neglecting its electorate. “The MCP regime has failed on every front. It is time for Malawians to rise, reject mediocrity, and choose leadership that is people-centered. The PDP stands ready to lift Malawians out of poverty and deliver tangible development,” he emphasized.
Reiterating the party’s vision of unity, agricultural transformation, and economic empowerment, Nankhumwa informed supporters of the PDP’s aggressive campaign strategy as the elections approach. “The PDP train is gathering unstoppable speed,” he declared resolutely. “We will reach every village, every constituency. The real custodians of the PDP are the people at the grassroots.”
Kondwani Nankhumwa’s statements underscore a significant shift in political dynamics within the Northern Region as the PDP gains momentum. His emphasis on grassroots mobilization and a critique of the current government’s performance reflects a growing demand for change among the electorate. As the general elections approach, the PDP is preparing to launch a concerted effort to secure votes, advocating for unity and empowerment within the communities.
