Joho and Duale Advocate for Muslim Unity and Political Participation

Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Ali Joho and Aden Duale urged the Muslim community to unite and support the government while obtaining national Identity Cards. They emphasized the importance of political participation, particularly with the upcoming elections in mind. Initiatives to assist individuals lacking IDs and a commitment to defend Muslim rights were also announced, contributing to the dialogue on unity and leadership in the community.

Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Ali Joho and Aden Duale emphasized the need for unity among the Muslim community during the Third Annual Graduation ceremony at the Ibn Abbas Islamic Centre in Mombasa. They urged Muslims to support the government and to obtain national Identity Cards to enhance their political presence. Joho highlighted the recent removal of additional vetting for ID applications as a positive change, encouraging increased registration as voters.

CS Joho expressed confidence that a substantial voter turnout in 2027 would astonish critics and said it would advance the possibility of electing a Muslim President in the 2032 General Election. He underscored the Qur’anic principle of unity among believers and criticized those who oppose the easing of ID vetting, stating, “We must be counted.”

Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry CS Aden Duale reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the interests of the Muslim community, informing them that he and Joho would work to prevent harmful policies. He noted that Muslim and pastoralist communities are influential in 20 counties and pledged to consolidate their votes to secure President Ruto’s re-election.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir recognized the impact of Muslim unity, which may provoke apprehension among certain groups. He announced initiatives to help individuals without IDs and birth certificates through the support of Ward Administrators, stating, “We will advance this agenda not by words but by actions.”

Additionally, Garissa Town MP Mohamed Dekow pledged to mobilize residents in North Eastern to register as voters for the upcoming elections. Bura MP Yakub Adow urged Joho and Duale to provide political guidance to the Muslim community. He claimed that no government in Kenya’s history has advocated for Muslim rights more than President Ruto’s administration. Nominated MP Abdisirat Ali remarked that opposition to the President arises from his dedication to equality and equitable resources distribution.

The call for unity highlighted by Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Ali Joho and Aden Duale emphasizes the need for the Muslim community to actively participate in politics and pursue their rights. With the removal of vetting procedures for national IDs, an increase in voter registration is anticipated. The leaders reiterated their commitment to defending community interests and mobilizing support for President Ruto, while initiatives to assist individuals without necessary documentation were also proposed.
