Gamerji, an esports platform based in Ahmedabad, is expanding its gaming-as-a-service model across key regions including India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The platform, renowned for its offerings such as FIFA, Valorant, and Call of Duty, has established partnerships with 34 telecom companies worldwide for game integration and cross-border tournament organization.
Sohan Thacker, the founder of Gamerji, stated, “We have partnered with telecom companies like Vodafone Idea in India, Du in UAE, Mobily in Saudi Arabia, and Ooredoo in Qatar, amassing over 65-70 million users.” Users earn virtual currency like gold coins, rather than real money, which can be redeemed for telco rewards such as free data and bill discounts.
Thacker highlighted Gamerji’s AI technology that matches players of similar skill levels, enhancing both gameplay experience and skill development. Initially, there was skepticism among telecom companies about users engaging with games on their apps, but Gamerji has since derived 37% of its revenue from B2B telecom partnerships.
The MyVI app sees a few thousand users daily, while international telcos are achieving between 20,000 to 30,000 active users, each exhibiting higher spending potential. Despite these successes, Thacker noted challenges in regional growth, particularly related to data localization, language differences, cultural preferences, and varying game popularity.
Looking ahead, Gamerji plans to intensify its focus on the aforementioned regions and aims to engage with federations for major esports tournaments, including the Esports Olympics and Southeast Sports World Cup.
