Egypt Finalizes Plans for Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Ceremony

Egypt’s Prime Minister has confirmed the Grand Egyptian Museum will open on 3 July, led by a Supreme Committee planning extensive logistics and security measures. The event will attract dignitaries and media from around the world, with preparations also extending beyond Cairo to other governorates.

The Egyptian government, led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, has finalized the plans for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) opening ceremony scheduled for 3 July. A meeting comprising key ministers and senior officials addressed preparations, with a focus on logistics, security, and technical arrangements for this significant event, which will attract global media coverage and numerous dignitaries.

Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi designated the official opening date. Additionally, celebrations will extend beyond Cairo and Giza to include events in other governorates, which will also undergo preparation. Ambassador Yasser Shaban confirmed the preparation of invitations for distinguished guests, including global leaders and prominent corporate figures.

Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir reported that three metro stations adjacent to the museum would reach completion shortly, and inspections of the Ring Road will identify improvement areas. Public transport initiatives, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations, are also in the final stages of readiness.

CABINET spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsani noted that extensive discussions took place regarding the overall logistics, from airport preparations and public transport to ongoing construction around the museum. The development progress at Sphinx Airport was also on the agenda, under a monitoring committee created by the Prime Minister to oversee this critical work.

The Prime Minister affirmed that each ministerial department will be assigned specific tasks, and the Supreme Committee for Organising the GEM Opening Celebration will conduct regular assessments and site inspections to ensure that preparations proceed on schedule.
