Uzbekistan Becomes Most Expensive for Beef in CIS, Global Ranking Revealed

Uzbekistan is the priciest country in the CIS for beef, ranking 91st globally with beef tenderloin priced at $8.1 per kilogram. Neighboring countries have lower prices, averaging just above $7. Global meat prices rose by 18% in February 2025, with Uzbekistan’s meat prices also climbing significantly over the past year and food inflation at a five-year low of 2.9%.

As of March 2025, Uzbekistan has emerged as the most expensive post-Soviet country for beef, ranking 91st globally according to Ranking.kz and Numbeo. The price for a kilogram of beef tenderloin has reached $8.1, significantly higher than its neighbors like Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, where prices are slightly over $7 per kilogram. The highest beef prices in the world are found in Switzerland at $44.3 per kilogram and Iceland at $38.7.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported an 18% increase in global meat prices in February 2025 compared to the previous year, mainly driven by rising demand for beef. In Uzbekistan, the prices of meat have surged by 14.4% within a year, with beef on the bone increasing by 18.5% and lamb by 19.4%. Notably, poultry prices decreased by 0.8% during the same period.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan’s consumer price index (CPI) saw a rise of 0.54% in February 2025, marking the highest monthly inflation rate since 2023. Food prices overall increased by 0.6% in February and by 1.4% since the year’s start, resulting in annual food inflation of 2.9%, which is the lowest in five years. Specifically, meat prices rose by 2.1%.

Uzbekistan’s standing as the most expensive country for beef in the CIS and its global ranking underline significant trends in meat pricing and inflation. With beef prices in the country increasing extensively while overall meat prices reflect a complex landscape of inflation and demand, careful monitoring of these economic indicators will be essential going forward.
