Strengthening China-Africa Cooperation: Insights from the Senegal Dialogue

On March 12, Chinese and Senegalese officials convened in Dakar for the “China in Springtime – Sharing Opportunities with the World” dialogue, coordinated by China Media Group (CMG). The event focused on enhancing China-Africa cooperation to promote modernization and high-quality development across the continent. Key participants included government officials, business leaders, scholars, and students from the University of Dakar.

Discussions at the dialogue revolved around China’s successful poverty alleviation practices, modernization efforts, and potential collaborative opportunities in trade, technology, and cultural exchanges. In a notable keynote address, Shen Haixiong, President and Editor-in-Chief of CMG, underscored the interconnectedness of China’s development with global prosperity. He advocated for an inclusive approach to global challenges, promoting “open-source sharing” and collaborative solutions rather than isolationist tactics.

Amadou Tidiane Wone, a Ministerial Advisor to the Senegalese President, reiterated the nations’ mutual commitment to deepening their strategic partnership, stating that China’s modernization offers hope and Direction for African countries. Li Yan, Chargé d’Affaires from the Chinese Embassy in Senegal, added that the evolving global dynamics, particularly the emergence of Global South countries, are shaping a new historical narrative.

Aldiouma Sow, also an Advisor to the Senegalese President, commended the dialogue as beneficial, particularly for the youth, stressing that the cooperation extends beyond economic links to include cultural and ideological exchanges. Hamidou Kassé, head of the Dakar Think Tank Club, highlighted that the season of spring signifies hope, and China’s achievements provide new avenues for development in Africa, emphasizing the importance of closer collaboration between think tanks and media between the two regions.
