Malaysia will host the Regional Summer Academy and the International Conference on Governance and Integrity this July, focusing on governance and anti-corruption initiatives. Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said discussed these events in Vienna, emphasizing Malaysia’s commitment to legal innovation and regional cooperation.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Legal and Institutional Reforms), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, has announced that Malaysia will host two significant international programmes in July. The first event is the Regional Summer Academy (RSA), scheduled from July 11 to 14, which is a collaboration between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Assembly of Parties (AoP) of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA).
The second programme is the International Conference on Governance and Integrity, set for July 15. This conference is organized by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department (BHEUU), in partnership with MACC, IACA, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. According to Azalina, both events aim to be vital platforms for discussing governance best practices and anti-corruption efforts while enhancing integrity and administrative oversight.
Azalina revealed that these initiatives were discussed during the recent IACA Bureau Meeting while she was on an official visit to Vienna, Austria. “I was in Vienna to chair the first meeting of the (Extended) Bureau of the Thirteenth Session of the Assembly of Parties of the International Anti-Corruption Academy yesterday,” she stated, highlighting her leadership role.
As the head of the AoP Bureau, which includes 77 countries and four international organisations, Azalina noted the importance of quarterly meetings in shaping IACA’s policies and strategies for enhancing its global role in anti-corruption training. The agenda of this particular meeting also included preparations for the upcoming 14th Session of the AoP, planned for later this year.
The meeting featured the presence of Malaysia’s Ambassador to Austria and the Permanent Representative to IACA, Ikram Mohammad Ibrahim, along with senior officials from IACA, MACC, and BHEUU. Moreover, Azalina engaged in a courtesy meeting with Anna Joubin-Bret, the Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). Their discussions revolved around Malaysia’s intention to adopt UNCITRAL’s Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency, aimed at aligning the nation’s insolvency framework with global standards.
Azalina emphasized that this initiative demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to legal innovation and sound economic governance, as stated during the Malaysia Cross-Border Insolvency Conference 2025 held on February 25. Furthermore, she noted the significance of this meeting in connection to Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, as the MADANI government leads efforts for regional legal cooperation, including harmonization of ASEAN’s cross-border insolvency laws.
In conclusion, Malaysia is set to host two pivotal international programmes in July, targeting governance and anti-corruption. These events underscore the nation’s dedication to promoting integrity and legal advancements. Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is actively forging international partnerships through dialogues with significant organisations like the IACA and UNCITRAL, which will enhance Malaysia’s legislative alignment with global best practices.
