Andrea Delmastro, the Undersecretary for Justice, conducted an extensive visit to Mexico from March 6 to 9. His itinerary included discussions with various high-level officials such as Minister of Gobernación, Rosa Icela Rodriguez; Undersecretary for Governance, Arturo Medina Padilla; Undersecretary for Security, Hector Elizalde; Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs for Europe, Maria Teresa Mercado; President of the Court of Justice of Mexico City, Rafael Guerra; and Commander of the National Guard, Hernan Cortes Hernandez.

During his meeting at the Ministry of Security, Undersecretary Delmastro signed a Declaration of Intent with the Mexican Ministry of Security and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI). This agreement aims to enhance collaboration in combating organized crime, improving criminal justice, managing penitentiary systems, and addressing extortion and corruption, with UNICRI facilitating these efforts following a preliminary mission to Mexico in December 2024.

Undersecretary Delmastro remarked, “My second mission to Mexico was aimed at agreeing with the new Mexican government authorities on the path to further strengthen the already solid cooperation between the two countries in the field of justice and security.” He underscored the keen interest among Mexican officials in adopting Italy’s methodologies in combating organized crime, emphasizing Mexico’s status as a stable democracy and a reliable partner in this endeavor.
