Zelensky News Conference Following US-Ukraine Ceasefire Discussions

President Zelensky will hold a news conference following productive ceasefire talks with the U.S. in Saudi Arabia, where both parties discussed military aid proposals. The Kremlin remains cautious, awaiting further discussions with Washington. Senator Rubio underlined the importance of deterrence for lasting peace in Ukraine.

On March 12, President Volodymyr Zelensky will conduct a news conference following ceasefire discussions between the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia. The talks resulted in a positive agreement concerning proposals for a ceasefire along with the potential resumption of U.S. military assistance and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that Russia will refrain from commenting on the proposals until direct discussions have taken place with the U.S. However, sources close to the Kremlin have informed Reuters that President Putin is unlikely to accept the ceasefire in its current form, expressing that Moscow’s concerns need to be addressed.

Senator Marco Rubio, addressing reporters in Ireland, stated that Washington intends to engage Moscow “directly” regarding the ceasefire agreement. He emphasized that Ukraine is willing to cease battlefield activities and initiate negotiations aimed at resolving the war sustainably.

Additionally, Senator Rubio highlighted that establishing a robust deterrent against Russia is essential for achieving lasting peace in Ukraine. He remarked, “There’s no way to have enduring peace without the deterrence piece being a part of that.”

The recent ceasefire discussions between the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia have sparked a cautious optimism about peace. However, the Kremlin’s response appears to be hesitant, indicating the need for further dialogue. The commitment from Ukraine to negotiate an end to the conflict was emphasized alongside the necessity of deterrence against Russia as fundamental to achieving stability.
