Prime Minister Oli Seeks Egyptian Support for Release of Hostage Bipin Joshi

Joshi is currently held hostage by Hamas. During a recent telephone conversation, Prime Minister Oli appealed to President Khalil to facilitate a safe and swift release for Joshi, who was participating in Israel’s ‘Learn and Earn’ program at the time of his abduction.

President Khalil assured Prime Minister Oli of his ongoing efforts to address the situation. The Prime Minister extended his appreciation for prioritizing Joshi’s case, as it was added to the list of individuals to be released in a forthcoming exchange between Hamas and Israel. Joshi was taken hostage during the attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Prime Minister Oli commended the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, emphasizing the significant role Egypt has played in this negotiation. He reaffirmed Nepal’s consistent support for global peace, expressing gratitude to both Qatar and the United States for their contributions to this humanitarian effort.

Additionally, during their discussion, Prime Minister Oli invited President Khalil to participate in the Sagarmatha Dialogue, scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18. As the host of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP-27), he underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between Egypt and Nepal on climate change issues.

The conversation also encompassed various topics, including mutual candidacy at United Nations forums, enhancing bilateral cooperation, fostering high-level exchanges, and strengthening the diplomatic relations between Egypt and Nepal.
