Urgent Demand for Investigation Update by House Speaker Koffa on Office Break-In

House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s office has requested the Liberia National Police for an urgent update on a break-in incident from February 11, 2025. The break-in, attributed to members of the Majority Bloc, resulted in the theft of valuable property. The Speaker’s Office expressed frustration over the police’s lack of response and called for immediate action and communication regarding the investigation.

In Monrovia, House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s office has formally requested an urgent update from the Liberia National Police (LNP) regarding the investigation into a recent break-in and theft that took place on February 11, 2025. Acting Chief of Staff Williette Payoudeh Cooper voiced her concerns over the police’s prolonged silence, expressing frustration that nearly a month has passed without a response following the complaint lodged.

The letter addressed to Inspector General Gregory O. W. Coleman highlights that the break-in, involving members of the Majority Bloc, represents a serious violation of the law and threatens the integrity of Liberia’s democratic institutions. The incident resulted in the theft of valuable assets, including $50,000 worth of furniture, Apple computers, confidential documents, and personal belongings with significant sentimental value to the Speaker and his family.

Cooper noted, “The blatant disregard for legal procedures is alarming, especially as the incident was openly broadcast by members of the Majority Bloc,” underlining the intentional nature of the unlawful act. The office is seeking clarity on the investigation’s current status, the recovery of stolen items, accountability measures, and enhanced security protocols for the Speaker’s Office.

The Speaker’s Office is committed to cooperating fully with the police to ensure an effective resolution to the matter. However, Cooper warned that the ongoing lack of communication is concerning, stating, “The continued silence from the LNP is troubling. We urge immediate action.”

The communication culminated in a request for prompt updates and provided direct contact details for further discussions between the agencies involved to facilitate an efficient investigation.

The office of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa is urging the Liberia National Police for an immediate update concerning the investigation of a burglary that yielded significant theft affecting both governmental and personal property. The situation accentuates crucial concerns regarding adherence to the rule of law within Liberian democratic processes, especially given the involvement of members of the Majority Bloc in this unlawful act. Immediate action and communication from law enforcement are imperative to restore integrity and security.
