Seychelles and Ghana Enhance Diplomatic Relations Through Official Visit

On November 21, 2024, President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles, along with First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, conducted an official visit to Ghana. The visit commenced at the Jubilee House, where they met with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, signifying a reaffirmation of the strong diplomatic ties shared between the two nations.

The meeting featured a ceremonial military guard of honour and a private discussion, during which President Ramkalawan conveyed warm greetings from the people of Seychelles, expressing gratitude for Ghana’s hospitality.

Discussions between the two leaders centered on their historical relationship and various areas for potential collaboration, including tourism, culture, youth development, and the blue economy. Key outcomes of the discussions included the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) focused on tourism and cultural exchange.

These agreements, signed by Ambassador Conrad Mederic and Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, solidified both countries’ commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation.

During a joint press conference, the leaders articulated their intention to strengthen partnerships and foster opportunities for both Seychelles and Ghana.

Following the conference, President Akufo-Addo and First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo extended their hospitality further by hosting an official luncheon for the Ramkalawans.

Additionally, the Seychelles delegation paid homage to Ghana’s heritage with wreath-laying ceremonies at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture, marking a meaningful tribute to Ghana’s historical significance.

This visit represents a significant advancement in deepening the diplomatic and cultural relations between Seychelles and Ghana.
