On March 7, 2025, Mr. Simon Agianab, Dean of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC), called upon national leaders, including President John Mahama and Speaker Mr. Alban Bagbin, to prioritize the welfare of journalists in Ghana. Following his re-election for a second term, Mr. Agianab emphasized the need for improved working conditions, enhanced safety, and adequate resources to support effective journalism.
In his appeal, Mr. Agianab stated, “A vibrant democratic society thrives on the watchdog role of journalists,” underscoring the critical nature of maintaining a free and supported press. He reassured the PPC members of the executive committee’s dedication to championing their interests and welfare, crucial for upholding press freedom.
The PCA significantly contributes to legislative coverage and accountability of public officials; thus, ensuring the welfare of its members is paramount. In the recent elections, Mr. Francis Ekow Anan retained the position of Deputy Secretary with 43 votes, while Mr. Kwaku Sakyi-Danso was confirmed as General Secretary with 42 votes.
Ms. Deborah Dzivenu was elected as the new treasurer with 44 votes, and Mr. Ibrahim Alhassan retained the position of Organizing Secretary with 30 votes. Additionally, Mr. Stephen Odoi-Larbi continues as Vice-Dean with 39 votes. The new leadership will oversee the Corps’ operations in covering parliamentary activities for the next three years.
