Hezbollah’s Resolve Against Israeli Presence in Lebanon

Hezbollah’s Secretary General Naim Qassem committed to eradicating Israeli presence in Lebanon, asserting the group’s military readiness despite a ceasefire. He highlighted Israel’s ongoing violations of the truce and emphasized the importance of Hezbollah’s armament for national security. Recent incidents involving Israeli forces underline the fragility of the situation, complicating Lebanon’s road to stability.

Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem has stated that the organization remains firm in its objective to eliminate any Israeli presence in southern Lebanon, affirming its resolve to protect the nation. In a televised interview with al-Manar TV, he noted that while Hezbollah paused operations during the ceasefire, it retains full military readiness for any potential confrontations.

Qassem remarked on multiple Israeli violations during the past 60 days, emphasizing that the ceasefire agreement necessitates Israel’s withdrawal beyond the Litani River. He reiterated the importance of Hezbollah’s arms for Lebanon’s defense, declaring, “Israel poses an existential threat, and resistance is Lebanon’s right.”

On domestic stability, Qassem endorsed the security forces’ sole authority over internal security matters, while asserting Hezbollah’s role in both political and military domains. He also stressed that restoring Lebanon’s war-torn regions is the duty of the state.

The truce agreement, established on November 27, 2024, aimed to put an end to a year-long conflict, including a two-month war involving Israeli ground troops. However, Israel has not fully complied with the withdrawal mandate, maintaining a presence in five strategic border positions, citing ongoing threats from Hezbollah.

Recently, there were incidents of violence linked to Israeli forces, including the wounding of a Lebanese soldier and a civilian near Kafr Kila. The National News Agency reported that gunfire near the Fatima Gate resulted in injuries, while a separate incident in Blida involved an explosive device that injured a civilian collecting scrap metal.

Despite the ceasefire, which has been brokered by the U.S. and France, Israel continues military actions within Lebanon, claiming these measures are necessary to address perceived threats from Hezbollah. This ongoing situation highlights the complexities of the regional security dynamics and the challenges facing Lebanon as it strives for stability.

Hezbollah’s unwavering stance against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon reaffirms the group’s commitment to national defense amidst ongoing regional tensions. Despite the ceasefire agreement aimed at ending hostilities, Israel’s continued military presence and recent violence present significant challenges to Lebanon’s stability. As Hezbollah insists on the necessity of its arms to counter perceived Israeli threats, the pathway to long-term peace remains uncertain.
