The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall expected from Sunday to Tuesday. On Sunday, significant rainfall will impact areas including parts of Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, as well as the Eastern and Western Highlands and the South Eastern Lowlands.

The intensity of the rainfall is projected to exceed 30mm by Monday, and the rain will expand into Northwestern Kenya, with a gradual decrease in intensity anticipated on Tuesday. Additionally, counties such as Kericho, Bomet, Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori, and several others are expected to face similar weather conditions.

Further affected regions include Busia, Kisumu, Nyamira, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, and Turkana. Other counties at risk are Marsabit, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, and Kajiado.

In light of this forecast, the public, including motorists, are cautioned to remain vigilant due to the potential for flooding, flash floods, and reduced visibility. The meteorologist advised, “Avoid sheltering under trees or near grilled windows due to the risk of lightning.”
