Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi led the tributes, emphasizing that Chebukati was a servant of the people who remained uncompromised in his duties. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula praised Chebukati’s adherence to the law and noted his historical significance as the first Chair to oversee three presidential elections. Wetangula remarked, “With the divided IEBC of 2022, not many would have managed to deliver a credible exercise under pressure the way Chebukati did.”
Senate leader Amason Kingi acknowledged Chebukati as a role model in the legal field, reiterating his thoughtful communication and the profound loss of a respected leader. Mary Chebukati, the deceased’s wife, regarded him as a generous individual who cherished his family while lamenting the adverse effects of social media during the contentious August 2022 elections. Chebukati’s parents, Wafula Chebukati Senior and Joyinah Wafula, reflected on their son’s strength and aspirations for the best in life. Chebukati is survived by his wife and three children: Jonathan, Emmanuel, and Racheal.
The ceremony was attended by numerous lawmakers, including Kakai Bisau, Majimbo Kalasinga, and Senators such as Allan Sang and Wafula Wakoli. Additionally, Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa and other high-ranking officials were present. Strict government guidelines limited political attire and statements at the burial, issued by Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, to maintain a respectful atmosphere during the proceedings.
