Vietnam and Kenya Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Vietnam and Kenya are poised to enhance their diplomatic and economic relationship as Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation during her term. A significant milestone occurred on March 5, when Ambassador Huyen presented her letter of credence to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto in Nairobi, reinforcing Vietnam’s dedication to this partnership.

During her presentation, Ambassador Huyen expressed her aspirations for support from the Kenyan government and suggested the prompt appointment of honorary consuls in both countries to facilitate economic and trade relations. She also extended an invitation from Vietnamese President Luong Cuong to President Ruto to visit Vietnam and participate in the upcoming Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit, set for April 2025 in Hanoi.

President Ruto acknowledged the strengthening friendship and collaboration between Vietnam and Kenya, noting the extensive engagement in various sectors. He voiced his confidence in Ambassador Huyen’s capability to further enhance this partnership. Furthermore, in discussions with Ambassador Eliphas Brine of Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Huyen emphasized the significance of fostering cooperation through delegation exchanges and improving coordination between the two nations’ foreign ministries.

Ambassador Eliphas Brine concurred on the importance of increasing delegation exchanges, deepening cooperation, and providing mutual support in international forums. Additionally, during her stay in Kenya, Ambassador Huyen conducted courtesy visits and held discussions with several ASEAN ambassadors stationed in the country. Diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Kenya were officially established on December 21, 1995.
